We’re less than three weeks out from the Two Rivers Adventure Race! We’ve got a great field of participants for both the five- and twelve-hour events, and we can’t wait to showcase Philadelphia’s hidden gems to locals and visitors alike.
The weekend before the race, we’ll be sending out details on the location for the bike drop and registration. For those who are curious about the “secrecy,” we’re holding that information because once you have it, you’ll have a decent sense of the course flow, and we’re trying to avoid giving local teams too much of an advantage in scouting the area ahead of time.
So, for now, below you’ll find some useful information for planning your race:
The items on this list are there to ensure your own safety, so make sure that you have all of the required gear. We may do spot-checks on the course. We also reserve the option to remove items on race morning, depending on the conditions that day.
5:00 AM – Bike Drop Opens (leave 10-15 minutes to get from the bike drop to the start)
5:30 AM – Registration Opens
Teams will receive instructions and most maps at check-in. Additional maps will be handed out on the course.
7:00 AM – Busses Depart for Start
Racers will have the opportunity to return to their cars at some point during the second half of the race. This will become clearer once you see the maps, but feel free to take this into consideration when you select your pack for the event.
8:00 AM – Race Start
8:00 PM – Race Ends
8:00 PM – Awards
8:30 PM – Post-race Happy Hour, location TBA in the final racer update. Food and drinks are available for purchase – first drink is on us.
9:30 AM – Registration Opens
Teams will receive instructions and most maps at check-in. Additional maps will be handed out on course.
11:00 AM – Race begins
4:00 PM – Race ends
4:00 PM – Awards
Five-hour racers are welcome to hang around and join us for the post-race Happy Hour at 8:30 PM.
For twelve-hour racers looking for a place to stay before or after the race, we recommend the western Center City or University City neighborhoods of Philadelphia. This will put you in a good position for both the bike drop and the start.
For five-hour racers, these neighborhoods will work well for you, too. However, if you would prefer to wait to book until the final update, you should be able to find something a bit closer to the start (since you don’t have to worry about the bike drop).
Finally, for anyone looking for a new hydration system, Source Outdoor is offering a special discount just for Rootstock racers — enter the code ROOTS16 for 25% off any purchases before December 31. We’ve been using their hydration systems for the past two years and have been especially impressed with their new Filtration model, with its built-in Sawyer mini-filter. We encourage you to check them out!
You’ll hear from us again after Thanksgiving with the final update. In the meantime, feel free to get in touch with any questions or concerns.
See you in the woods!
