Check-in and Lodging
Check-in for this year’s race will take place in Ralston, PA (exact coordinates forthcoming in the next update). There is very little infrastructure in Ralston itself, but plenty of options within half an hour. Coming from the south, we recommend Williamsport, home of the Little League World Series! From the north, you might check out Mansfield, PA. We haven’t been there so can’t vouch for the amenities, but on googlemaps it looks like there are basic hotels and restaurants available.
There is no camping in the immediate vicinity of the start, but you’re welcome to explore camping options in Loyalsock State Forest. Information is available here.
Check-in will open at 7:00am. We’ll open at 7:00am. When you check in, you will course receive course instructions and maps for Day 1 (you will receive maps for Day 2 on Sunday morning). Each participant will receive his or her own map and clue sheet, but teams will have only one passport.
The race will begin at 8:00am on Saturday, and you will have until 10:00pm to make it to mid-camp. If you miss that cut-off, you will incur a 1-point penalty for every 5 minutes you’re over, so take care in the decision of whether to short-course or not.
At mid-camp, you can expect snacks, campfires (weather permitting), a plenty of space to set up your tents, and great company. We will also have some water available, but it will be largely reserved for cooking.
The Stockville weekend coincides with the end of Daylight Savings this year, which means that the clocks will turn back an hour overnight Saturday. We’re still determining how to factor this into the race clock. We see three potential options.
- No change to previous years, which would mean that the start window for Day 2 is between 5am and 6am.
- Teams get an extra hour on the clock (so, instead of beginning Day 2 between 5am and 6am, the window will be 4am to 5am).
- The window becomes 4am to 5am, and we end the race at 3pm instead of 4pm, giving you an extra hour of recovery before the start of the week.
We welcome your input on this. If we hear from a critical mass of participants, we are happy to defer to majority rule.

Also, we expect chilly temperatures overnight. Make sure to bring appropriate gear to keep yourselves safe and comfortable for the duration of the weekend.
You’ll see that we will be transporting tents and cooking gear. Please have a bag for us to transport your gear, properly labeled. We’ll be checking these bags at registration. We ask that you respect the spirit of the event and pack lightly. We don’t want to see any 6-person tents for two-person teams or portable grills, and we reserve the right not to transport equipment if your bag is unreasonable in size or weight. We have various priorities for race day and if we need to make several additional trips to mid camp with equipment because some teams bring yurts or grills, we won’t be able to accomplish other tasks we need to focus on. So, PLEASE be reasonable!
