Stockville Racer Update #1

10/7/2016

We’re just two weeks out from the inaugural Stockville! As the race approaches, we wanted to send out a few details to help you get ready for what we’re expecting to be a fantastic weekend in the woods.

First, registration opens at 7:00am on Bell Furnace Road, Orbisonia, PA 17243. You’ll want to come in from the south side, off of SR2012.

At registration, you will receive maps, clue sheets, and instructions for Day 1 of the race. Each participant will receive his or her own map and clue sheet.

The race will begin at 8:00am, and you will have until 10:00pm to make it to mid-camp. If you miss that cut-off, you will incur a 1-point penalty for every 5 minutes you’re over, so take care in the decision of whether to short-course or not.

At mid-camp, you can expect snacks, campfires (weather permitting), a large field to set up your tents, and great company. Make sure to fill up your hydration systems before arriving at mid-camp. We will have some water available, but it will be largely reserved for cooking.

On that note, the gear list for the race is available here. You’ll see that we will be transporting tents and cooking gear (camp stove and fuel — not pots). Please have a bag for us to transport your gear, properly labeled. We’ll be checking these bags at registration. We ask that you respect the spirit of the event and pack lightly. We don’t want to see any 6-person tents or portable grills and we reserve the right not to transport equipment if you are unreasonable. We have various priorities for race day and if we need to make several additional trips to mid camp with equipment because some teams bring yurts or grills, we won’t be able to accomplish other tasks we need to focus on. So, PLEASE be reasonable! One more note on this: you may want to pack a ground tarp, and we’ll transport these as long as they’re bundled with the rest of your gear. We are awaiting word on whether mid-camp will be mowed or not, but either way you might want a tarp to protect your tent. You are responsible for the rest of your food and gear, for the duration of the event.

There will be a window to begin Day 2 between 6:00am-7:00am. You may take up to 30 minutes with the Day 2 maps before you clock in (which means, if you want the full 30 minutes, you need to retrieve your maps no later than 6:30am). Once the clock starts, you will have 10 hours to get to the finish. Note that the course time for the Day 2 is substantially shorter than for Day 1.

We’re really excited for this event and can’t wait to see you all there. Over the two days, you will encounter a challenging and physical course, and a wonderful community of friends to share it with.

If there are any other updates, we will send them out the week of the event. In the meantime, feel free to get in touch with any questions or concerns.

See you in a couple weeks!
