Mandatory Individual Gear

  1. PFD (can be provided by the race organization, if needed)
  2. Paddle (single- or double-blade permissible. Single-blade canoe paddles can be provided by the race organization, if needed)
  3. Whistle (one per person)
  4. Space Blanket (one per person)
  5. Raincoat with taped seams (will decide on race day whether you need to carry it)
  6. Food for up to 9 hours
  7. Means to carry water – if you are in need of a new hydration system, we recommend SOURCE hydration systems.

Mandatory Team Gear

  1. Race rules, maps, passports (provided by the race organization)
  2. Fully charged cell phone
  3. Compass – if you are in need of a new compass, we recommend Kanpas products
  4. Knife
  5. Bailer or Bilge Pump
  6. Throw Bag
  7. Water filtration. There is plenty of water, but you will need to treat it!
  8. Dry bag to keep important gear dry.
  9. First aid kit – The list below is the mandatory, minimum requirement, but we encourage you to round out your kit with additional items as you deem necessary and wise. We recommend you consult the medical kit’s supply list for guidance on additional supplies.
  • Antihistamine/benadryl
  • Ibuprofen
  • Assorted bandaids
  • 4 gauze pads, minimum 2×2
  • Disinfecting wipes
  • Epipen if a teammate knows he/she needs one

Recommended Gear

  1. Appropriate footwear: you will obviously mostly be in a canoe and likely wet. You may also be able to and elect to travel for short periods of time on foot, so plan accordingly.
  2. Extra clothes and rain protection, if conditions warrant
  3. Map Case
  4. Headlamp (in case you get stuck out past the cut-off time)
  5. A watch
  6. Middle seat for teams of three (not provided by race organization)
  7. Sunscreen
  8. Hat
  9. Sunglasses: you will be on the water for the majority of the race, so be prepared for a lot of sun!
