Mandatory Individual Gear

  1. Whistle (one per person)
  2. Space Blanket (one per person)
  3. Rain coat (water proof with taped seams; water resistant jackets are not permissable)
  4. Hydration system – If you are in need of a new hydration system, we recommend SOURCE hydration systems
  5. Necessary food for the duration of the event
  6. Headlamp

Mandatory Team Gear

  1. Fully charged cell phone (one per team)
  2. Compass (one per team) – If you are in need of a new compass, we recommend Kanpas products
  3. Race rules, maps, passports (provided by the race organization)
  4. First aid kit – The list below is the mandatory, minimum requirement, but we encourage you to round out your kit with additional items as you deem necessary and wise. We recommend you consult this medical kit’s supply list for guidance on additional supplies.
    • Antihistamine/benadryl
    • Ibuprofen
    • Assorted bandaids
    • 4 gauze pads, minimum 3×3
    • Disinfecting wipes
    • Emergency supplies for those who require it (inhaler, epi pen, etc…)
  5. Water purification

Recommended Gear

  1. Pack
  2. Suitable clothes/layers for the weather
  3. Knife
  4. Long pants
  5. Gloves
  6. Map Case
  7. Camera
  8. Foot lubricant/cream – we recommend Hikegoo and other products from Foot Kinetics
  9. A watch
  10. An altimeter (some points will be easier to navigate to with the aid of an altimeter)
  11. Rain pants if conditions warrant them

Prohibited Gear

  • Weapons
  • GPS devices/pedometers/etc…
    • If you’re wondering whether a particular device is approved, ask us BEFORE the race
    • If you want to use a device for the sake of tracking your route for later download, you may be permitted to use it but must discuss this with the organization BEFORE the race
  • Night vision googles or other similar devices
  • Communication devices – a cell phone is required for emergencies only; no other such devices should be carried unless approved by the organization
  • Any form of transportation not specifically allowed by the organization
